Re: ...support for Windows 10?
Bit of any update.
Due to the number of errors/crashes/missed recordings I was getting, I decided to start again.
I rebuilt my server with a new motherboard, new CPU (G1840) and increased the RAM - going from 4GB for system and 4GB for RAMDisk to 6GB for each.
I also reverted back to Windows 7 (from Windows 10) and used MSSQL 2012 rather than 2014.
So far, everything is working perfectly again - no problems at all.
Irritatingly, I did not make the changes one by one to try and identify what is causing the problem.
Has anyone else been having any more specific problems with Windows 10 and/or MSSQL2014?

Re: ...support for Windows 10?
I've been running SQL 2014 on Windows 10 now since it was released and have not come across the "missed recordings" problem at all
However PC/Workstation has 8GB ram and is a bit overkill for a mainly backend ArgusTV server (Do run Kodi frontend on it sometimes). So maybe the problem is related to SQL running out of memory/resources?

Re: ...support for Windows 10?
Thank for confirming that - I am tempted to have another go, now, with Windows 10 and MSSQL2014.
The Windows upgrade is not going to be a problem - I can upgrade, see if everything works as normal and (if the problems start again), I can roll things back to Windows 7 again.
However, MSSQL Express is going to be a problem - if I upgrade 2012 to 2014 and notice that this causes problems again, is there anyway to easily revert back to 2012 again?

Re: ...support for Windows 10?
I dont believe you can downgrade from sql express 2014 to 2012 and I dont think you can use a 2014 database in 2012. What ! would do is either use a spare Hard drive to do your tests on or use something like acronis true image to create an image of the drive before you install the mssql express. That way you can just revert back to that point start again from there

Slightly off topic...
Would running MySQL use less resources than either MSSQL 2012/2014?

Hi Wayloncovil
If you use MySQL 5.6.x - surely YES, by far!
Using MySQL 6.x or 7.x - it's not better than MS SQL 2012 ff. Bad behaviour started on my systems with MySQL 5.7 already...
MySQL 5.6.x is comparable with SQL Express 2005 (with both I had my best and fastest result - best was SQL Express 2005)
Greetz & nice weekend - Chris

Should be easily possible to downgrade, as the argus' databases are really simple databases only.i0zjh02 wrote:I dont believe you can downgrade from sql express 2014 to 2012 and I dont think you can use a 2014 database in 2012. Use MySQL Workbench and export "argustv" databases in a single-contained file, uninstall MS SQL 2014 and all components (check in Win programs if all are uninstalled), install MS SQL 2012 or 2008 R2 (better) or earlier (best) and import back the "argustv" backup to a newly created database named - again - argustv (all small letters)
I made several migrations with this method, forth and back and even across platforms MSSQL <--> MYSQL

Re: ...support for Windows 10?
Hi Chris,
Thank you for clarifying that.
I just assumed that later versions of MSSQL must be better than those before, but you are saying that the opposite is true?
Also, the only reason that I currently use MSSQL over MYSQL is because the Argus Wiki suggests that it gives better performance - is this still the case or is MYSQL now the better option?
