Best UK TV guide grabber?

Post by itm » Fri Jan 29, 2016 8:44 pm

I've just noticed that my XMLTV grabbers have not been working for a while. I was previously using the following grabbers:
- UK_BLEB
- UK_Digi
- UK_RT

When I run the XMLTV grabber I now get these errors (and no guide data):

Code: Select all

18:32:31 - Starting pass 1 of grabber UK_Bleb
18:32:31 - Finished pass 1 of grabber UK_Bleb
18:32:31 - 0 programs found
18:32:31 - Starting pass 1 of grabber UK_Digi
18:32:31 - Logging In
18:32:32 - Error downloading "http://localhost:2402/dologin?password=" : Socket Error # 10061
Connection refused.
18:32:32 - Login failed
18:32:32 - Check the wiki for help:
18:32:32 - http://www.birtles.org.uk/xmltv/wiki/index.php/UK_Digi
18:32:32 - Grab failed during start function of pass 1
18:32:32 - 0 programs found
I guess that my sources are now no longer usable? Can anyone recommend a good grabber for UK TV Guide data? I'm running Argus TV/XML TV on a Windows 7 machine

I've been using the atlas grabber from Metabroadcast (they've taken over doing the Radio Times feeds) with XMLTV for the last year. https://metabroadcast.com/blog/providin ... from-atlas

Thanks for that. My Radio Times XMLTV feed stopped working a long time ago, but I just re-tried it and it seems to be back again - I guess Atlas have taken it over since I last tried it.

So it looks like the Radio Times EPG grabber is dead again - I get these messages when I run a grab from XMLGUI. Any recommendations for an alternative source for listings?

Code: Select all

10:39:06 - Radio Times returned a zero sized reply for channel BBC HD
10:39:07 - Radio Times returned a zero sized reply for channel BBC Sport Interactive: BBC1
10:39:07 - Radio Times returned a zero sized reply for channel BBC Sport Interactive: BBC2
10:39:07 - Radio Times returned a zero sized reply for channel BBC Sport Interactive: BBC3
10:39:12 - Radio Times returned a zero sized reply for channel Ideal World
10:39:13 - Radio Times returned a zero sized reply for channel Price-drop.tv
10:39:13 - Radio Times returned a zero sized reply for channel Rocks & Co
10:39:13 - Clearing cache
10:39:13 - 41 / 48 channels downloaded
10:39:13 - Finished pass 1 of grabber UK_RT
10:39:13 - 14517 programs found
10:39:13 - Starting pass 1 of grabber XMLTV_Import
10:39:13 - Importing XMLTV file "xmltv.xml"
10:39:13 - Failed to open XMLTV file "xmltv.xml: No such file or directory"
10:39:13 - Grab failed during start function of pass 1

Hi, I use the Radio Times grabber via XMLTV GUI, but only for 7 channels in my 'Main' channel group,
I use OTA EPG to populate the rest.

Looking at that snippet of your log, the grabber has imported data for 41 of the 48 channels that you have requested, the 7 channels that returned no reply are all old channels and I imagine that data is no longer available for them, they have probably just been removed from the Radio Times database.

If you open the XMLTV GUI settings and click on 'refresh' that will update the channel line up, then you can re-select the channels you want to grab, and some re-mapping may be required within Argus.

I don't see a "Refresh" option anywhere in the XMLGUI interface. There is also no tvguide.xml file generated in the destination folder after I run a grab. The last tvguide.xml file in the "Imported" folder was dated 12/2/16. So the GUI suggests that it is finding some programme listings, but no XML seems to be generated.

In XMLTVGUI go to Tools - Settings - Grabbers - Select UK_RT - Channels - Refresh Channels

For the output folder and filename, set that in Tools - Settings - Save Listings To:

Mine is still working fine on Windows 8.1 server, it gets 7 channels at midday every day and imports around 2100 programs.

OK I refreshed the channels, then did another grab, but it still didn't create a tvguide.xml file to the selected output folder (C:\ProgramData\ARGUS TV\XMLTV\tvguide.xml). The last tvguide.xml written to the "Imported" subfolder is still dated 12/2/16.

Code: Select all

I just downloaded and installed XMLTV GUI on my laptop and quicky ran it with one channel from Radio Times and it worked:

16:15:04 - Channels Downloaded
16:15:04 - Channels Cleared
16:15:04 - Channels Processed
16:15:31 - Starting pass 1 of grabber UK_RT
16:15:31 - Please note that all data downloaded with this grabber is copyright of the Radio Times website (http://www.radiotimes.com) and the use of the data is restricted to personal use only. Also be aware that this service may not remain free and in future may become a paid-for service
16:15:32 - Clearing cache
16:15:32 - 1 / 1 channels downloaded
16:15:32 - Finished pass 1 of grabber UK_RT
16:15:32 - 276 programs found
16:15:32 - Combining Grabber Programs
16:15:32 - Finished Combining Grabber Programs
16:15:32 - Writing XML
16:15:32 - XML Written

Yours mention something about xmltv.xml, not sure what that is. Maybe re-download and start again?
