I currently have MediaPortal 1.5 installed

I want to update MP to 1.7 (at least) in order to get some added functionality. Of course I would also like Argus working within it.

If that's not possible without breaking MP, would it be OK to install Argus 2.2.2 with MP 1.5?

How does Argus 2.2.2 stack up against MP 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 as far as compatibility goes?

Argus 2.2.2 supports upto MP 1.6.x only.
MP 1.7 will not work properly with Argus 2.2.2 as is.
But dot-i created a Beta plugin for Argus 2.2.2 with MP 1.7, which works (just generates some uncritical error messages) - see viewtopic.php?f=69&t=4847

But, as you're now still at MP 1.5, I´d personally recommend you to wait for Argus 2.3 which supports MP 1.8 - which is already final and if you update, I guess, you would want to use the latest final of MP.
(If you would want to donate to Argus, you'd have access to Argus 2.3 betas and release candidates - and already now the support of MP 1.8.)

Argus 2.3 is in its Release Candidate status and from the point of testing, there seems just to be one issue left to be solved.
As I know dot-i, we can expect a RC2 soon, and a release, if no further issues are popping up, in rather days than weeks. Argus 2.3 is mature already.

So maybe you would want to wait some days, maybe few weeks (worst case) and directly migrate to Argus 2.3 plus MP 1.8.
Or, as mentioned above - if you donate, you get access to betas and RC, which is already now compatible with MP 1.8

Please read carefully the install notes and ... please be aware, it´s a RC (release candidate) - but a very stable one
