Hi,
I am having to reset my server with a completely new reinstall of Windows 10 and was wondering what the current advice is for the SQL database.
The wiki seems to suggest that MSSQL is the better option but I have seen lots of threads on here to suggest that MySQL is working better for people.
Is there any sort of consensus on which I should go for?
MSSQL vs MySQL?
Re: MSSQL vs MySQL?
I expect it's probably fairly subjective depending on your setup. Having tried both, I'd say MSSQL may be 'slightly' quicker populating the guide, but IMO not enough to compensate for the huge amount of bloat that comes with it. MySQL has a significantly smaller footprint and is just as effective. YMMV

Re: MSSQL vs MySQL?
Thanks for that.
I agree that MSSQL does come with lots of stuff that you just don't need - I think I am going to go with MySQL instead.
Which version would you recommend?
I noticed that MSSQL 2014 was noticeably slower than 2012 (which I currently use) and it was discussed on here that 2008 is faster still.
Is it the same case with MySQL?

Can't say I've tried MSSQL 2014, only 2012 and 2008 which both seemed about the same for my usage.
As for which version of MySQL, I try to stay fairly up to date with the latest Community version. Far too much software out there that's swiss cheese without going out of one's way to stay behind on security updates. Bugfixes are always welcome too (not that I've particularly noted any)

Re: MSSQL vs MySQL?
Just a quick update - my server is so much faster now.
It might just be my particular set up but the difference is definitely noticeable, compared to when I was using MSSQL.
